So at max discount you're basically getting 2.44 cents per amex point with the Amazon deal- significantly more than you're saying the Amex points are worth- making it quite a good deal based on your valuation.
(you don't have to use more than 1429 points to get the full $35 discount as long as you're buying at least $87.50 worth of stuff)
