I think so. Prices going up and the pricepoint for an U9/1TB/32GB/RTX5080 was (like 2 months ago) $2,000 on a sale. This is a 2026 model and has a 2TB SSD.

*not the same price actually, $100 more and obviously only if you live near a microcenter, just wanted to make people aware that the vector is not the only option at this price point.

Just me, but seems kind of silly to drop this much on a gaming laptop. Don't they still usually run into overheating problems unless they're overly bulky? I understand the appeal of bringing it anywhere.. but you're paying a hefty premium for that and making some real tradeoffs too. I could see it if this is your only primary hobby and insisted on the PC platform and play location mobility.

I use this exact model, upgraded the ram and storage though, but not for gaming, for AI development and for that purpose, gaming laptops are champs and the portability is a must for me. I bought an Acer before but had nothing but overheating and freezes when running the models so I returned it and bought this one, a huge difference.

is it good as local llm? trying to determine if the 5080 is worth it or if i should get a desktop and an ultrabook and remoting into the desktop for local llm.
