Within weeks the rubber outer shell will become loose and you'll can't close the lid without vise grips. These things suck.

No idea why our experience is different but we have three and aside from scrapes from being dropped on asphalt ours look/function as new. Only reason I'm not buying more is we've moved to larger sizes

They're actually the only ones I ever bought replacement parts for (one of the straws split where it attaches to the lid after going thru the dishwasher 50ish times)
