I am a heavy cereal user, and I was very disappointed with the last box of raisin bran I purchased.
Where. are. the. RAISINS?
Did scoop size just drop dramatically since I had raisin bran years before? The picture on the box is a damn lie and Kellogg's knows it.
Look, I understand it's tough in the raisin game right now. We're all familiar with the 2016 raisin price slump, where RPPT (raisin price per ton) dipped to around $280. Those were happy days for raisin aficionados, but they warned us that it would drive acreage decline (down 38% since then! see: https://www.ams.usda.gov/sites/de...hibit6.pdf) and increased costs in the future. In a way, we did this to ourselves. I'm as guilty as anyone for taking for granted the relatively low CPR (cost per raisin). I certainly don't fault RBA Chairman Charles Salmon, the man is working with what he has in terms of negotiating all-in baseline prices.
But here's the thing: the cereal is called raisin bran. Everyone's in it for the raisins. Without those, it's just "bran." And that's what I'm getting a big mouthful of nowadays. I'm willing to pay more to keep the raisin level even.
To paraphrase the Game of Thrones finale, "Who has a better cereal than Bran the Raisinless?" And the answer, as in the show, is "pretty much everybody."
Show me the raisins, Kellogg's, or I'll continue to show your cereal the door.
