Yes, this contains the same 4K restoration. The only difference is that the 4K disc doesn't contain the 192kHz Hypersonic Japanese track that is on the Japanese (as in, released in Japan) 4K disc and also in the theatrical screening (it is incredible!). However, the included standard Blu-Ray in this package contains the Hypersonic mix.

A few other notes: if you go to the theatrical screenings, the English dub is the 2001 edition and is not a Hypersonic mix. Only the Japanese audio screenings are, whether or not they are IMAX (of course, IMAX will be louder and more powerful than standard auditoriums).

Also, these packages should have the corrected 4K discs. The original packaging of these discs (which had different cover art and a hard box) had discs with no HDR10 as promised and you had to contact the studio for a replacement disc. Just to be safe, check your disc.

Bought the 4k a year ago but never watched it and just saw it with a list. Was a great experience. Sound was great. Glad I have the 4k to watch again

Thank you for this! Seems crazy that the new 4k does not have the premium sound mix, but the BR does? Is there a US release of this that has it all in one 4k disk, or is this the "best" set to get for region 1/US?

No. This has a lot of noise reduction added, that reduces detail & texture.

This movie and the original "Heavy Metal" are what got me hooked back in the 90s. Definitely going to pick this up and I haven't bought physical media in ages. Thanks for the post!
