Don't Intel Ultra CPUs run far hotter than Ryzen?
Historically, older generations of Intel desktop chips (like the 13th and 14th Gen) ran drastically hotter and consumed massive amounts of power compared to AMD Ryzen.
However, with the Intel Core Ultra generation, Intel completely changed its approach and closed that gap:
Massive Power Reduction: Unlike older Intel processors that uncapped power limits to push extreme clock speeds (often drawing 250W–300W+ under load), Intel Core Ultra chips were redesigned from the ground up for efficiency. They draw significantly less power and run much cooler than past Intel generations.
AMD Still Holds an Edge in Efficiency: While Core Ultra is a massive improvement over older Intel hardware, AMD Ryzen (especially the Zen 5 / Ryzen 9000 series) still generally maintains the crown for pure power-efficiency and lower thermal output under heavy multi-threaded loads and gaming.
The "Hot Ryzen" Behavior: It's worth noting that modern high-end Ryzen chips are designed by default to boost their clock speeds until they hit a specific thermal target (often around 95°C under maximum load), which can look alarmingly hot, but it is entirely intentional behavior by AMD to extract maximum performance safely.
So while Intel Core Ultra runs much cooler than older Intel chips, AMD Ryzen still tends to be the more power-efficient option overall.
