Also, bits are larger (which makes a whole lot more sense to me from a "I'm gonna lose them all if they're super tiny" standpoint) and dual-headed, and a higher percentage of them are likely to be useful. Though the two weird slotted security bits seem like an afterthought.

Are you talking about the ECX #1 and #2 bits? These are most often used by electricians for receptacles, outlets, switches, panel screws, etc. The screw head has the advantage of being compatible with slotted, square/Robertson, and Philips. This bit gives a fully locked up connection.
