if you want a 47mm Fenix8, the FenixE is the same class

just no microphone or speaker and only single-band GPS (and no dive features)

but otherwise literally runs the same firmware as the Fenix8 and the display is amazing AMOLED

(also like the Fenix8 it runs 4x CIQ datafields which only newest high-end Garmin do)

and more importantly has been $500 this year and will be again if you wait for it

For me Fenix E was a dealbreaker due to its lack of latest gen 5 elevate sensor (E uses older gen 4), sapphire crystal and flash light. E also lacks multi-band GPS but that's not too important for me. I am not very careful with my watches and titanium/sapphire have kept it still decent looking after a year.

Key Improvements in Elevate Gen 5Hardware: Uses multi-band LEDs and a redesigned physical layout for better skin contact and sweat resistance.New Capabilities: Adds hardware support for ECG (electrocardiogram) readings and skin temperature tracking.Accuracy: Offers faster response times during rapid heart rate spikes, interval training, and weightlifting compared to the Gen 4 sensor. The Fénix E is a rebranded Epix standard (no sapphire, no flashlight, older HR monitor) with Fénix firmware. The hardware is a generation behind but firmware is current and it'll be getting the new Fénix 9 features except the new maps engine.

Not a great deal, fenix 9 just releasesd so this is now two generations behind. Fenix 8 -> fenix 8 pro -> fenix 9
Also the fenix 8 pro has gone on sale for $850 before the 9 was released, so I would expect that to drop down to this price in the near future

the CPU in the FenixE is the same as the Fenix8

as far as wrist heartrate, all optical sensors are garbage for serious monitoring

no wrist sensor can do HRV while moving

and the spO2 pulse oximeter at the wrist is absolutely horrible and meaningless, you do better with a $10 finger monitor

so the gen 4 vs 5 is nonsense hype, there's literally no difference in reality because if you are doing something serious like running you need a HRM belt anyway if you want real data

if the FenixE ever goes below $400 it's going to be an amazing deal because it can run everything and anything the Fenix8 can do for several hundred more

oh and the AMOLED is the same, only the Fenix9 is better but that's ridiculously expensive
