Kind of a "just so" story that was very light on research. If you like fantasy history it's a fun read but don't take it too seriously.

This is my favorite non-fiction book so far. Although a lot of it can be considered philosophy, rather than fact. I very much like the general tone and depth of the book. I listened to it on audiobook, and the narrator was very good.

This book seemed pretty solid until about the half way point then it felt like the author got drunk. It quickly shifted from reasonable assumptions from historical fragments stitched together, to oddball rants that clearly had nothing to support them. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if there was a chapter on big foot toward the end. I wouldn't recommend it for that reason. Try Bill Bryson's A short history of nearly everything instead. Different topic but if Sapiens appeals to you this might as well- and the author isn't a dingbat

Yeah, was a bit random at times .. author is a bit of a race-bater/political ranter... but those parts removed, excellent book.

Don't lump me in with the other detractors up there, my issue with this book is that it is essentially historical fiction presented as factual research. See the "Scholarly reception" section of the book's Wikipedia page.
