I'm out on all things PC for a while. GPU, RAM, just outrageous. Gonna keep rolling with my 5 year old build until I see prices be sorta normal, might be a year, probably 2 or more I think

I bought this to replace my 7600x for vr gaming. Its a HUGE improvement. The downside is I had to get a new motherboard because while swapping out the CPU I must have tightened the cooler too much and the mobo no longer recognized more than one stick of ram

Well let me tell you, first there is like 4 or 5 even 10 more years of AI development, after that comes the AI bublee burst, and everyone will lose their jobs because everyone is investing in AI. So you won't be able to afford ram for like 3~4 years more because your budget and everyone's budget is gonna be very short, if you are unable to afford it now you won't probably afford in the future after the AI bubble. So after that, prices will come down and economy will recover enough for us to consider buying ram.

Alternatively there is a breakthrough in real genuine sentient AI (doubtful) in which case RAM will be outrageously priced for our lifetimes. But if that occurs, the economic disruptions will be a much bigger problem than whether we can upgrade our home PCs.

Companies won't let prices come down to pre2025. Especially now that people are willingly paying for a subscription for cloud hardware with GeForce Now. Wouldn't be surprised if in 5 years or so companies stopped selling computer parts and only started offering subscriptions for cloud streaming of computer cycles. I don't like it.

Cloud gaming is still very niche and not particularly popular. The lag is still an issue on all but the lowest latency home connections and you still need a computing device to handle the codec and network traffic. RAM prices are inflated by a currently outrageous demand. The only things that will keep them there are unwavering historic demand, or collusion. If the bottom falls out of AI demand, there won't be enough collusion to prevent the market from being flooded by the expanded manufacturing. The current demand is enough to see RAM and chip shortages for the next couple years, assuming there isn't a catastrophic crash causing existing contracts to get cancelled or backed out of, also a possibility.
