I guess this is a good price but I would personally stay away from Fender acoustics. I would take this money instead and put it towards a used Yamaha or even a cheaper Eastman offering

If this is one of their Indonesian made acoustics it could be pretty good. My first acoustic was an Indo CD140SCE All Mahogany and there was nothing wrong it it. It still plays and sounds great. I still pick it up when I'm in a hurry even though I have a K24ce now.

the tuners on these suck, even for a budget guitar. I'd pass

I bought one of these without the accessories during the last deal. There is absolutely nothing to complain about at this price. It's well made, sounds good, and has no functional flaws at all. Mine has a slight imperfection in the wood grain on the top so it doesn't look as nice as more expensive guitars, but it's barely noticeable.

It's a great utility guitar for casual play and going places you'd be afraid of taking a nicer instrument. (The tuners are fine. They're slightly stiff but hold tune very well.)

I would trust this far more than a used Yamaha because most used guitars are sold for a reason, like high action, belly bow, fret buzz, or other minor issues that you shouldn't see in a new guitar.

I don't see Eastman guitars in this price range. Only occasionally in ugly cowboy burst finishes. Eastman is great value compared to mid and upper price range guitars, but I don't think there's any extra value at this price range even when you can find one.

I'd agree that Fender acoustic guitars are not as good as a lot of other name brands such as Yamaha. Definitely go for the Yamaha FG800J which has been rated as the best starter guitar for multiple years as well as earlier versions of it which I own and can confirm I've never played another guitar in the same price range that was better overall than these Yamahas.

Agreed.

But while any guitar in the Godin family of brands is going to be excellent for the money, you simply won't find any of them in this price range. Even during the best sales, the cheapest Seagull is almost always over $400.

Yea you're correct on that. I guess I felt compelled to participate.

My bad.

For $154 this is a good guitar for a beginner. It has a slim c profile neck and should be easy to play.. Even for the seasoned player this is good to kick around, take to the beach, etc. All of the other guitars mentioned above are much more expensive.

Beginning players usually quit in a few months anyway, so why spend too much unless you know you are going to stick with it.
