I thought these were a good idea until I used one and I was backing up looking for the laser and it never turned on and I bumped the back wall of my garage. It is safer, easier, and cheaper to just look for a reference point in your garage to line up with some part of your car. For instance I backup straight into my garage and I look to my right and when the 2nd leg of my shelving unit lines up with my right side mirror, I'm exactly far enough in my garage to close the garage door and not too far to where I'll run into the back wall. That shelf is bolted to the wall so that is a perfect reference point to use this method for since it will never turn off or move so I can always trust it will work for this purpose. The laser is not 100% reliable, and it can also be bumped if someone is carrying a ladder or something that brushes up against it and moves it when you're not home you still expect it to be pointing in the correct spot and its not which will cause you to hit something.

Try using the old fashion method.... string with ball hanging from the ceiling.
