thinking of getting my 6th grader a new backpack. might be too big for him right now though. he's like 4' 9" and 80 lbs

oh I see, thanks. I think I might just wait a year or 2. his current eddie baurer backpack is still going strong, and if we get him this smaller one right now, he might outgrow it when he hits a growth spurt

In for one! Time to retire my Dakine after 12 years cause the new puppy chewed the zipper. I use Osprey for travel, daytrips, and backpacking and I'm very happy with their quality.

These are excellent school bags, but might be better for older kids. I gave one to my high schooler and it's going strong. I told them bags like these are meant to keep for years, which translates to "don't expect me to buy you a new bag any time soon". These things will last longer than your kid's changing style/taste and attention span. For younger kids like 6th grade, they will likely get tired of the bag (any bag) and want a new bag every year, at least mine did, so at that age we just got them inexpensive "disposable" ones.

i decided to buy it Smilie. i keep seeing osprey deals the past 1-2 weeks. can't ignore it anymore. the other deals i saw were for larger 30-32L backpacks so those would be even more oversized.

i think he can just grow into it and start using it now. he already goes traveling with my with an adult osprey backpack, which indeed does look big on him, especially when fully packed, but i think he'll be fine
