I got this for my then kindergartener to use for lunch and snacks at summer camp. It is too small for reusable containers (for reference, she uses a PlanetBox Shuttle stainless steel container and other small containers). I got her the bigger 7qt one and it could fit her stuff, but she didn't like lugging it around.
This little one, if using disposable food storage like Ziploc bags, foil, etc. or prepackaged snacks and pouches, I can actually fit a good amount of food along with a reusable ice pack. If I go this route (and I occasionally do), I usually pack her a sandwich wrapped in parchment paper; a couple of snack size Ziploc or Stasher bags of things like grapes, popcorn, Goldfish; a couple of pouches of applesauce; and whole fruit like a banana or a couple of clementines (if we use our own containers, I'll give her some cut up fruit like watermelon instead).
