A few weeks ago, my neice asked me specifically if I have a G7X M2.
I have others as well , Canon 5D..Sony A74
I said "yeah, why?"
Unbelievable.... This is the ONLY camera I can sell on eBay and get more than what I paid for...
in any case, my niece is currently borrowing it.. long term..
I guess I need a new travel pocket camera.
its been a bit of that. canon isnt complaining for sure. they resumed manufacturer of it last yr, after a shortage of components.

i think there been rumors for over a year now. hopefully the sept news is actually concrete.
I since bought a Sony RX100 for $1200 (open box). It kicks the butt of this camera.
But I'm returning it. I'm getting the Leica D-Lux 8 for $2k or less from Abt.
My thoughts.
Canon is good to great and compact. Has flash. Good controls over all. The build quality feels a little cheap and the experience overall doesn't make me want to use it all the time. I've taken to using my big mirrorless camera instead despite the size just because I like using it more.
The Sony is more fun to use. Has better zoom and better picture quality. better build quality. Faster shutter. EVF is super helpful.
I'm going with the Leica because none of these are pocketable in pants.
The Leica is way more comfortable to hold but still feels compact enough I can carry it everywhere and not get tired. It also has nice texture. The Sony feels slippery to hold. Sony was so small it made taking a telephoto picture difficult to take, making the zoom advantage less. The small sensor on the canon and Sony are also a bit too small of sensors. The Leica has option if much more bokeh (when needed).
The colors on this Canon are quite bad and the contrast is handled poorly. I find myself shooting black and white a lot with it because the colors aren't very good. The sony was much better. I think the Leica will be even better.
Canon feels like a better old school point and shoot, but without the charm. I have a 2012 Canon point and shoot that's actually pocketable and 20+ mp. it's lower sharpness and color science are very clearly from a bygone era. this G7X is not that.
The Sony reminds me of a little brother of my A7RV. This isn't a bad thing. I like it a lot. but I'm not looking to closely replicate my mirrorless experience. I'm looking for a less more "artsy" look and I think the Leica will deliver.
The price difference is very big, but I plan to use these cameras like 5-7 times per week and cameras are how I make money.
If you want to spend under $1000 the G7X is the play. At this price I would spend more and get the Rx100 on sale.
