Surprisingly, dvd looks pretty dang good on my 65" when upscaled through my Blu-ray player. I'd say it's equivalent to 720p streaming quality. Very watchable. Alot of people still have older tech that only takes dvd.

I actually find that I enjoy (prefer?) many 80s-00s movies in DVD. Maybe because the lower resolution that's how I saw them originally? Maybe because the CGI blends in better? Maybe because my brain fills in the realism? Not sure what the reason is, but if it's not a nature documentary or a movie where the landscape is a focal point, I don't need crazy resolution.
my main preference for Blu Ray is more about how hard they are to damage
