I would avoid these as there are much better docks and at lower price. Had the G4 and G5 and they both suffer from compatibility with HP laptops. Have to change the probook BIOS settings and firmware updates on the device to make it usable.

I have both Anker 555 for my home office and Ugreen revodok for travel. I prefer the Anker as it's more standards based and UL certified whereas Ugreen isn't and it shows. UGREEN doesn't support older DP 1.2 or lower standards and more handshake issues. Both are budget devices but perform way better than the HP. The HP dock is geared towards enterprise management and enterprise HP devices. But in practices, its just not that great. Its a good device but price and performance is subjective.

For these ones the most common failure point is the usb-C cable at the base of the doc.

It's actually just a crappy usb-C cable, and if you remove the screws, you can unplug it and replug a new usb-C cable in and that'll fix the dock connectivity issues.

I did this with a cheap $10 g2 I bought on ebay. Replaced with a short thunderbolt Amazon basics cable. Had to have a HP (other brands probably work) power supply for it though. Great dock for what I paid. The fan is a little annoying on it.

ya a lot of these companies just throw them away as scrap when it's a cheap sub $10 fix.

Price and capabilities its actually comparable to $50-70 docks - but not the $171 tho lol

Absolutely zero issues using two (G2/G4) docks with a Gigabyte Z890 mobo, and no issues with my laptops or work laptops with the G2 and G4 thunderbolt docks, or the G5 universal. Updating the firmware takes around five minutes.

People on here are so dramatic about things that are most likely user error.

You can get an HP G2 Thunderbolt dock with power adapter for under $30 on ebay. Unless you're doing something extremely niche these docks are the best bang for the buck.
