I used to have a Brother label maker that fell and broke. How is this one? I learnt that new Brother label makers take proprietary tapes for their new app based machines.

I have the E10 and it works great. These can print on glossy fully laminated waterproof labels where as most of the cheaper ones just print on water-resistant pre-cut labels. I would have bought this if it was cheaper when I bought the E10 since this has USB-C charging, the E10 is micro-USB (or at least was)

The keyboard piqued my interest but proprietary labels hurt my intent to buy because I have a stack of generics that I use right now with a different printer. It's still a solid deal, though.

Does anyone have any good non-proprietary printers they recommend?

PUQU non-proprietary printer I believe. At least the model I have good battery and holds a great charge. But this is more for larger labels but still works great for smaller one. Does require phone to use.

Just tried mine out and like it better than NIIMBOT. The printing is a lot darker and clearer even at the same size. The app is not as easy to use. Rather than size the text to the space, you have to manually adjust the text size +/- to fit the box - or at least I haven't figured out how to make it happen automatically. Nice that the package comes with a continuous label which the NIIMBOT didn't. The only thing the NIIMBOT does that this can't is make cable labels which seems to require the G15 SUPVAN printer despite the manufacturer video showing those labels. Machine will cleverly align the labels to avoid waste if you pull it out past the shell and then hit ESC twice. Bigger than NIIMBOT if you're traveling with this.

Is this a thermal printer? I have a NIMBOT and it works well but need something that I can make labels that will last many years for things like electrical panel wires.

The SUPVAN E11 Label Maker is only compatible with genuine SUPVAN label tapes — it does not support third-party or other brand label tapes.
