Not sure why this is getting TD'ed. (Other than the 2024 model year)

However, I have this phone in a 2023 version and it's a great phone and the 256gb size is great.

I've personally had excellent experience with my phone. Almost 3 years later, still works like new and very responsive. Yes at some point you'll stop getting updates on it , but I can't say that's been on issue for me.

Big screen, has the stylus for taking notes, finger print reader, NSC for payments, etc. Lots of bells/whistles and my camera takes great pix and video.

This is a decent budget phone; the 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage plus ability to add an SD card / microphone jack for wired headset are pluses. Also - the compare with the 2025 and 2026 versions (https://www.gsmarena.com/compare....one3=14581) shows small differences. Note that OS upgrades supported on the 2024 model are only upto Android 15.

I haven't found this phone below $200 as "unlocked" and "new"; you can find the 128 GB version "used" on Amazon for around $160-170. Or - if you don't mind locked - Verizon Value on ebay sells the Tracfone locked 128 GB version with a 1500 minutes / 1500 text / 1.5GB annual plan for $80.

Not really a deal per se, since it's been this price a while at Motorola's site https://www.motorola.com/us/en/p/...PB1M0007US

I think the thing that gets overlooked is, a phone isn't a staple item, like buying paper towels.

Many people come to slickdeals to search for a phone when they actually need one. So even though the $199 price has been in play for a time, it doesn't mean it's not a deal 'per se' because for this much bang for the buck on an unlocked phone, I know of no better price right now. (not counting free phones with a plan deals that your phone is locked to a carrier for 12 months)

Sure, on Black Friday 3 months from now we prob will, but if you need a phone now to replace a busted phone, that is when you are shopping. And if this is the best deal out there, it's still a deal to the person in need.

You're not wrong, I was writing it in the morning. I did mean to write it's good for visibility but morning fog brain and all. That being said, mentioning that, no, it is not a deal "per se" is important because we are on a deals site. It's important to mention that no, the price is not a good price for the phone itself but is a good price for a decent phone in normal times.

OK, so here's the deal, I don't recall ever seeing a lower price for a NEW UNLOCKED 2024 version of this phone. and compared to other mid-range budget type smartphones (Samsung or other brands) not aware of anything in this price range with 256/gb and 8gb of memory.

Is it a 'deal' as far as, the price just dropped? no, but IMO it is still a good deal, even if the price has been $199 for 3 months or whatever. I'd bite if my 2023 Stylus just crapped out on me.

Meh. $200 bucks for an unlocked phone is a bit much IMO. But then again I'm kind of a cheapskate.

have to balance that against what you are getting. this is a 256gb / 8 gb phone. Sure you can pay $100 for a lot less phone, but there is something to be said for getting a phone that will meet all your storage needs and is a decent phone that will last you a number of years assuming you don't drop it in a swimming pool

I have this exact phone (2023 version) and it's a great phone, very pleased with the performance and I used it a good amount. Just get a good protective case and a screen protector for it for under $10 on Amazon.

I have both the 2023 and 2024 Stylus but I would never buy any of these mid-tier Moto's past their most recent model year release. Wouldn't advise anyone else to do so either.

I typically get these type Moto's free, in carrier port deals but still only current year models.

well, right now the 2025 version I believe is the newest (unless there's a 2026)

so let's say you do the deal you speak of, the phone is locked to that carrier for 12 months and you're probably paying 2-3x the cost at $40-60 a month versus a $15 a month all inclusive plan.

So your 2025 version won't unlock until Aug 2027 and it's the same 'age' as the phone on this deal. Thus I see no value in doing that if you need the phone now rather than overpaying or using it for a month or two to meet the conditions and sticking it in a drawer until next August to have it unlock.
