I've been getting HP Envy desktops w/ 400 watt power supplies to add single or dual fan 4060 cards (115w). 5060 might be a stretch (145 to 155w). Not sure if it will fit triple fan cards. The bottom label specifies wattage. I.E. 110v at 5A label means it's a 400w power supply w/ an 8 Pin power for GPUs. I recently got an i7-13700 HP Envy, 8GB 2666mhz RAM, 256GB NVME SSSD, 400w power supply for $308 on ebay but I've noticed supply of those have dried up. I had extra parts to upgrade the RAM and SSD.

This OmniDesk is an AM5 chip but I don't know about BIOS support for higher CPUs. The RAM is only 5200mhz if you want to upgrade the CPU in the future that use faster RAM. But the CPU is still fast.

For this OmniDesk AI says you can add 500w HP power supplies to it. AI says:
"Look for verified HP proprietary 500W replacement power supply units (such as HP part numbers L05757-800 or DPS-500AB-32 variants used in HP OEM ecosystems) that feature the correct smaller proprietary P2 motherboard connectors."

Microcenter has a pic of what's inside. Looks like they put a plastic shroud to channel the hot CPU air to the back using a stock cooler. The HP Envy desktops don't have a shroud but I change the CPU cooler anyways w/ smaller 115mm height dual tower coolers (4 to 6 heatpipes) w/ 90mm or 100mm fans.

I have this. It has normal expansion slots, but the power supply doesn't have a PCIe power cable. The best use of this for most people is to just stick with the 780M. By the way, the motherboard, PSU, case, and cooler are all proprietary and only meant to fit with each other.

will it fit dedicated GPU to make it similar or better than steam machine? i see that power supply need to be changed as well to support better gpu, otherwise it can support only low-profile gpu cards

I've been getting HP Envy desktops w/ 400 watt power supplies to add single or dual fan 4060 cards (115w). 5060 might be a stretch (145 to 155w). Not sure if it will fit triple fan cards. This OmniDesk is an AM5 chip but I don't know about BIOS support for higher CPUs. The RAM is only 5200mhz if you want to upgrade the CPU in the future that use faster RAM. But the CPU is still fast.

For this OmniDesk AI says you can add 500w HP power supplies to it. AI says:
"Look for verified HP proprietary 500W replacement power supply units (such as HP part numbers L05757-800 or DPS-500AB-32 variants used in HP OEM ecosystems) that feature the correct smaller proprietary P2 motherboard connectors."

Microcenter has a pic of what's inside. Looks like they put a plastic shroud to channel the hot CPU air to the back using a stock cooler. The HP Envy desktops don't have a shroud but I change the CPU cooler anyways w/ smaller 115mm height dual tower coolers (4 to 6 heatpipes) w/ 90mm or 100mm fans.

Yes. But not necessarily in a bad way.

Getting a super fast car probably won't shorten your commute to work. Getting more than you need in the computing space can make things faster and snappier. You definitely get diminishing returns as you keep upgrading. But nothing about the system in this deal screams excessive. (Well, except for the inflated prices due to RAMpacolypse.)

It also means that the computer will be "good enough" for longer. Unless Windows stops supporting it, you should be able to go a lot longer before feeling the need to upgrade. Sometimes spending a bit more can even make the total cost of ownership lower if it can extend the system's life by quite a bit. And it also means less times you have to go through the process of migrating everything to a new computer.

(I'm not saying you should jump on this deal in particular. I'm just giving one perspective on the benefits of getting a bit better specs than you need.)

I have this. It has normal expansion slots, but the power supply doesn't have a PCIe power cable. The best use of this for most people is to just stick with the 780M. By the way, the motherboard, PSU, case, and cooler are all proprietary and only meant to fit with each other.

the problem i see with a 8700G preconfigured here, is while low demand gaming you will probably get thermally throttled at 95C. 8700G is a good idea if you can use your own big push pull cooler, not a flat pull cooler like AMD bundles with some of it's other cpus. my point is if you find an 8700G attractive for gaming, you do not want it in such an HP case.

This particular deal/desktop/Microcenter link only shows a x4 physical PCIe slot. So even if you had a different power supply, no way to connect a GPU.
