These are great for gardening - I just bought a second 2-pack the other day - but note that there's practically no protection on the back side. Not a dealbreaker, but thick work gloves have a far thicker back side, even if it's not the durable fabric or leather of the palm side.

As an IT guy, I have baby soft hands that wouldn't last 5 minutes doing household projects. I absolutely love gloves like this. $4/pair isn't the best deal I've seen, but it's not a bad deal.
