If I buy a kindle am I locked into buying books from Amazon or can I still download a library app or other bookstore to get my books?

Be careful. scAmazon has been on a profit-fueled tirade against the Kindle. They've bricked several versions so you can't use them with their online store OR library digital loan options.

And they've removed the ability to transfer purchased books to the device via any method OTHER than directly through their online store (no USB, no direct transfer, etc).

There's absolutely ZERO guarantee they won't do the same...or worse...to these discounted models in the near future.

You can store books in other formats from other sources on your computer with software such as Calibre and load to your Kindle as needed.

They are above the laws. If you brought them to court, they would blame the ai.

I needs the Paperwhite to sell out so I'm not tempted. I'm still reading with my 2013 Paperwhite!
