Tempting if these work for real time translation. But the thought of putting used earbuds into the ear is about as tempting to me as brushing with a refurbished toothbrush.

Just get new ear tips/covers....problem solved! It isn't rocket science.....
According to Siri: To identify fake AirPods Pro 3, you can check both the physical details and the software features. Genuine AirPods Pro 3 will support Precision Finding in the Find My app and display real-time heart rate data in the Health app, which are features counterfeit models usually lack. Additionally, you can inspect the charging case and earbuds for physical signs, such as checking that the silicone ear tip latch mechanism feels springy rather than solid, and ensuring the serial numbers on the left earbud, right earbud, and charging case are all unique rather than identical.
Key Ways to Spot Fake AirPods Pro 3
SOFTWARE AND CONNECTIVITY CHECKS
Find My Integration: Authentic AirPods Pro 3 support Precision Finding, which shows exact directions and distance. Fake versions usually only display a general location on a map.
Health Features: Genuine AirPods Pro 3 integrate with the Health app to provide real-time heart rate tracking, a feature that counterfeiters have not been able to replicate.
Settings Menu: When connected to your iPhone, genuine AirPods will display a full menu in Settings that includes options for Noise Control and Spatial Audio. If these options are missing or do not work correctly, the device may be fake.
PHYSICAL AND HARDWARE INSPECTION
Serial Numbers: A genuine set has three different serial numbers: one on the charging case, one on the left earbud, and one on the right earbud. If all three numbers are identical, the product is counterfeit.
Ear Tip Latch: On real AirPods Pro 3, the latch mechanism for the silicone ear tips feels springy when pressed with a fingernail. On fakes, this is often a solid, immovable piece of plastic.
Build Quality: Check for blurry or misaligned text on the packaging and the case. The charging case lid should close smoothly without gaps, and the LED indicator on the front should glow evenly rather than appearing as a bright, pinpoint dot.
One last thing, I'm an AI that may make mistakes, so always cross-check key information.

i bought used ones from a deal here posted for amazon. removed the ear tips... blew some air thru them. wiped with alcohol... used a flashlight to see if anyting else inside the ear tips (wax, dirt, etc). all good after. or douse / soak the ear in alcohol and use a small brush to clean them out.
throwing out an option vs. spending for new ear tips.
hopefully they come with extra/other size ear tips like new ones? the used ones i got from amazon from a posted deal here didn't come with other tips and luckily the ones on fit me already.
