Newbie here. I almost jumped on the AD5X a week or two back. I realize this is more $$, but curious for a real world comparison between the two regarding speed, print quality, and any other pertinent info. Anybody have both and want to comment?

This is one of the best machines to get into 3D printing if it's your first machine. AD5X has poor parts and performance compared to Bambu. But if you have this much budget, I would swing a little bit more and get a A2L combo, it is capable of being a plotter, cutter as well.

Bambu has a more refined print from app and website due to having a larger user base for longer. Flashforge is growing now due to their price vs print quality, or value. Both these printers print great. Keep in mind the AD5X has been as low as $160 with CB, which is an insane bargain.

Bambu labs is an iPhone compared to the other 3D printers as Androids. You can get some higher-end Androids, and you definitely are also getting the lower trash ones. Bambu labs ate also famous for their plug and play approach. They let you set it up and start printing while the other printers all requite tinkering and calibrations. Bambu labs is also a walled garden. They are limiting how 3rd party software can get into their eco system. However, if you need that much customization, you probably wouldn't need to ask this question.

You explained nothing besides the parts are cheaper from Flashforge. At the end of the day they're both CoreXY printers. You're going to get the same quality print from one as another and that's just the truth. Bambu usually has better features like auto pressure advance, LiDAR mapping, and heated chambers but I'm unsure of this unit.

Recently got a flashforge 5m for $120. Not multicolor like this, but there was zero calibration I had to do, so you are incorrect there. Just print. 80+ hours in and it's been great.

I can confirm the plug'n'play claim here, as I recently received this combo as a gift & I was printing from the app within an hour or so.

The same day I set up the printer I also picked up a WEN drill press at auction that turned out to be missing a safety key for the power switch—not the end of the world (WEN is good about aftermarket stuff like this) but very annoying as I wanted to use it immediately. With a little diligence I was able to find an STL (one in the Bambu Handy app, one on printables.com—it seems a lot of makers upload the same project files to all the bigger sites) and was able to import it into Bambu Studio, align it to the bed in a couple clicks & knock out the job in 15 minutes. I could've bought it on Amazon, but I would've spent extra money shipping a 4-pack I'd never use from god knows where just to turn around & put the extra parts in a landfill.

When you actually think about the cost & effort it takes in terms of shipping, processing, etc.—not to mention all the waste that's generated as a byproduct of all this—all that effort just to make the machine move so you can do something incredibly basic, it feels pretty good to bypass all that nonsense & just move forward.

Make sure you get some filament, the sample it comes with won't last long (I literally ran out while typing this, the machine just beeped angrily at me), fortunately it goes on sale often here. Reducing PLA waste is my new mission.

I started off with an AD5X for $238 during Black Friday last year. It was a solid starter printer and got me totally hooked after about 1,300 hours of use. That said, I eventually hit some snags, and since the documentation wasn't great, I definitely broke a few things trying to troubleshoot. I consider myself pretty tech-savvy, but it just felt too finicky for my taste.
I've moved on to a different setup since then (H2D, which admitidally is a totally different beast), and the Bambu ecosystem is just way smoother. It's definitely a bit of a "walled garden" like Apple, but it makes life so much easier. I checked out Qidi, but Bambu's multi-material support is exactly what I needed for my workflow.
