Older AC motor, unfortunately. DC is the modern standard for fans with the following differences:
Power Draw: DC fans typically use up to 70% less electricity than their AC counterparts to move the exact same amount of air.
Noise: Because they use a permanent magnet and run on direct current, they eliminate the audible electrical buzz or hum common in AC motors.
Control: DC motors typically offer 6 speeds and instant reversing from the remote, whereas AC fans usually max out at 3 speeds and require flipping a physical switch on the motor housing.
I didn't know the difference between AC and DC motors until recently and was quite surprised at the magnitude of differences.
