I work for a big tech company. There are many people where I work who are finding that AI tools are very helpful. They're not interns or junior engineers, but people who've been working in the industry for 10+ years. I don't write software, but I do lots of scripting and AI tools have made me way faster at writing scripts.

Honestly, I'd be shocked to meet a software developer who isn't using some kind of AI tool at all. Even if just to ask questions, "e.g. what's wrong with this syntax."

respectfully this is just a fundamental misunderstanding of how software development works. I have worked as software engineer for almost 10 years. Intern might be able to start writing (near) production-grade code changes, which is a great multiplier, but more advanced engineers are using AI to build swarms of agentic code contributors. We're working on systems where agents will automatically author code changes, another agent will review that change/challenge it, etc. I have multiple Claude sessions running at once, one is troubleshooting an outage, one is drafting up a remediation, and then another completely separate session is my focal session where I'm prototyping a feature. 10x0 is still zero and the amount of leverage you can get with these systems is much higher, albeit also expensive. I consume multiple thousand $ usd of tokens in an average month

I've been doing infrastructure for almost 30 years. The last 10+ year of shifting to Iaac I had to depend on other teams to write tf of our designs. I have essentially eliminated the devops team with Claude. I knew very little about the ci/cd pipeline and I didn't really care too much about it. Ive learned more about git and terraform cloud in the last 6 months than in the last decade.

I'm patching, upgrading and deploying faster than I have ever done. Not to mention finding configuration and security issues.

Developer for over 15 years, senior / staff / lead level. I'm literally tasking Claude with 5 different features using git worktrees while I comment on SlickDeals. Once each feature is done, I code review it and make adjustments. You're delusional if you think the gains are miniscule.

I've seen the same usage from all our s/w engineers using AI (i.e. all levels are benefiting). This conversation makes me question a previous poster's definition of "more experienced" vs "quality" engineer; LOL!

Senior Director and developer here for a large company you all know.

With 22 years of development experience, I'm already operating in a highly parallelized workflow. I routinely spin up multiple git worktrees and drive concurrent feature development via Claude, then step in for structured code review, refinement, and integration. This approach materially increases throughput without compromising quality. The practical efficiency improvements I am seeing in real-world delivery is other-worldly.

AI is here to stay.

The criteria to qualify for this is relatively high:
-OSS maintain packages with 500 or more dependent repos, 100 or more dependent packages, or 200,000 monthly downloads
-You're a listed committer or maintainer on a recognized core language project. Linux kernel, Django, Rails etc.
The typical developers best bet is this route:
-You've authored 100 or more pull requests merged into repos you don't own in the last 12 months
