no coupon price is 25. left is for power and right side for data. may not be as nice when placed on table as shown in the pic. for carrying, I think one with built-in cable is easier.

They've had this form factor for years and I like the top access to the ports, but those side ports just look stupid with cables coming off from the left and right when plugged in. It would be perfect with the ports on the back or choose a side and put both power and host connection on the same side!

It's a shame it doesn't have PD passthrough. I'd a grabbed at least 2 of them, one for each of my laptops, maybe a 3rd for my tablet if it did. To make things even worse, it says it requires an external 5v 2Amp power adapter just to operate peripherals like external hard drives, etc. Basically anything thats need a little extra power to run properly. It has a dedicated USB-C power supply port on the back but the power adapter isn't included (its also not PD (power delivery), it's just low powered 5v 2 amp, (meaning no more than 10 watts max) and on top of that, you'll still need to purchase one separately. To be honest, I'm Kinda surprised anyone is buying these but it makes sense there's a 25% off coupon available. Probably should be more that 25% off IMO. It's USB-C data transfer speeds but it's not USB-C PD. That's a shame. This hub is just for data transfer with just the minimal 5V 2Amps max (10 watts) power.

One of the side ports is the main connection and the other is for power. Kind of lame they dedicated an entire usb c port just for power. Yeah, that hub design is old and not really meant for passthrough charging of laptops, for example. The reason for the power input is to help power devices you might have plugged into the USB ports that, by standard, are supposed to supply a certain amount of power to devices. Let's say you have 4 portable hard drives connected -- each one requires quite a bit of power and 4 of them would overload the host USB port, so you can plug in a power source to help power the USB ports.

I understand why a hub needs supplementary power, what I don't understand is why they didn't use the USBC PD protocol. It's kinda strange because they are using a much newer USBC 3.2 Gen2 protocol for data transfer but no USB PD. Not even the lowest powered version. literally no PD at all, just regular old ass 5v 2.4A which is just 12 watts max and has been around forever. I think they really dropped the ball on that aspect of this hub. Especially when you consider USBC PD has been around for over 10 years now. or since 2014
