The epix line was folded into fenix so... not really? But this one has about 98% of the fenix 8 for half the price. Not saying it's a good deal in absolute sense but the price for new is getting close to refurbished price.

It is. It's an item you carry with you daily. Hour per dollar is extremely good. It is bulletproof and very accurate. It's easily worth this and more if you use it every day. Like your phone or bed value is unbeatable when it has a positive daily effect on your life.

Agreed. I upgraded to this model from a Fenix 6X Sapphire about a year ago. I also have several Samsung Galaxy watches (Pro 5, Ultra). The Epix is really the only one I wear now. The battery somehow lasts far longer than the 6X despite that watch not having an OLED screen. The Samsungs are nice, but have to be recharged daily.

And I actually prefer the Garmin Epix as a daily watch over the Samsung models. YMMV.

$550 is still a lot of money but the newer Fenix models are quite a bit more pricey...basically twice the price for the comparable Fenix 8 (at MSRP).

My Venu 2 recently started to die, so I was looking at this one and the Venu 4 during Prime Day. I couldn't pull the trigger on either one, but as my watch slips deeper into the abyss, I am almost ready to buy.

As I read this, with my 6X saphire on my arm. I came to get this info, thank you. I am surprised that your battery life with OLED outperforms LCD.

Been looking for deals as my Fenix 6 is about 4+ yrs old and battery now doesn't last a week. When I first got it, it would last about 3 weeks with minimal gps use. Now, even with no gps, if I get 5-6 days, I'm lucky. No user replaceable battery, starts to make it a brick in a over time. Need a replacement and this one intrigues me.

There are some online reviews, articles, and YouTube videos that recommend factory resetting the device, as that may rehab the battery at least for a while.

Longtime Garmin user here: The device itself is absolutely not worth the price, even at a 50% discount. Decent Chinese smartwatches with similar fitness features are available for $100 or less. What you are buying into is Garmin's Software and ecosystem, which have slowly evolved over the last 30 years, and are a quasi-standard for more serious athletes. Unfortunately, they are also trying to move that to a subscription model, so you are being (over-)charged for the equipment and the software.

Fyi. The battery is replaceable, just look on Amazon for compatibility replacement. However you do have to solder the connections. At least that's what I did on my 6X.

Got my 7X Pro Sapphire on a Slickdeal in 12/23. Crazy it's still almost the same price almost 3yrs later.

Wonder how this new Epic 2 compares. Couldn't imagine not having the flashlight btw. From flying a plane at night to not waking my wife when I come to bed, it's alone worth the price. Great products and platform, Garmin!

Too pricey, I agree on that part.
It's great if you are an athlete or training for something specific like a marathon or triathlon or are planning to do mountaineering, and need a device which can gather multiple data points simultaneously to show you the bigger picture.

For most people who even use it as a daily driver it's way overkill... There is no point in getting accurate to the minute information or stats. Eventually it just becomes meaningless data.

I got an Amazfit T-Rex 2 over 2 years back for general training for hiking. I did a lot of research during that time and the Fenix and Epix models were out of my price range... The Amazfit T-Rex 2 has really been nice and I've been eyeing the T-Rex 3 and the pro versions, which also are getting pricier, but this T-Rex 2 is still going strong and I can't justify spending more money just to look at time and occasionally look at the heart rate trend over a week or a month.

For most people buying this watch is the equivalent of buying a super trainer shoe for $250+ just to walk in a grocery store and buy some bread.

Granted, my 6X is older so maybe the battery is getting weak. Also, I don't have the Epix set to always-on, but rather to "gesture" mode which is fine for me.

But I like the Epix a lot more for other reasons too. The OLED screen is very nice (I never loved the LCD of my Fenix---it was fine in bright sunlight though). I actually find the flashlight handy too. It's also faster than my 6X, and apparently the HR sensor is better and the GPS more accurate.

The 6X is still a great watch, but the Epix Pro is a definite upgrade.
