And can you believe they are rebooting this? I mean, I for one would want to see at least a weekly Robocop show but... how do you top the original?
The original TV show was universally considered terrible, should be pretty easy to top it. The challenge is always getting anywhere close to the first film.
People want to pretend like the 3rd awful movie wasn't even made.
Like this show a lot but that said it is very goofy- like a campier variation of Robocop 2 . Has some fun guest stars like Roddy Piper and Mac's dad from Always Sunny .
This is a pretty good deal for fans of all things RoboCop, but here are some warnings about it:
This is the Complete 1994 Live Action TV Series. Disregard the "Season 1." There's nothing else, just these 22 episodes.
The "series finale" is actually episode 21. Watch episode 22 before 21. The order got swapped here for some reason.
Despite what the product listing says, this is not in 4:3 SD quality. Rather, you'll be receiving the series in 16:9 SD format. It is also the much disliked transfer from the US Blu-Ray release. It is waxy and full of DNR that kills all details, which is bad enough since this was finished on tape and upscaled for the Blu-Ray (and is now downscaled again for this digital version). It is also a lazy crop of the top and bottom that doesn't even work to reframe things properly. Some people have their heads cut off, the opening credits get mangled, and the MediaBreak segments are unwatchable since any nameplates or tickers with jokes on them are unreadable or cropped away completely. If I'm not mistaken (I didn't check), the end credits (which do have a killer theme song) may be in the original 4:3 format and uncropped.
If those things aren't dealbreakers, $2 is a steal for this. This always seems to stream for free on various services, so if you don't know if you'll like the show itself, check it out for free and watch an episode. Some find it to be cheesy fun. And if you like it and can live with the waxy, cropped transfer, spend the $2 here to have it without commercials. If you like it and hate the transfer, seek out the original DVD set or the out of print German Blu-Ray if you're region free. It's the original non-DNR transfer and aspect ratio, has the English audio, and has the whole series on one disc (SD quality on Blu-Ray disc).
