Is it me or do laptops seem way more expensive this year. Couldn't you find a lot of laptops under $500 with these specs or am I missing something

Memory prices are way up which has driven up the price of any computer. AI industry build out is using up lots of memory and causing scarcity and drive up the price. Past year or so RAM is up like +150% and SSD/NVM is up ~100% roughly.

I got a SD closeout laptop last year $300 with similar core cpu (1st gen) 8mo later is second gen both having 16gig ram. My screen is smaller and a bit washed out looking in colors as I suspect also in this being not their top line series. I got this type but a 7 series with a x1200 400nit brightness screen vs this x1080 300nit At $670 sale samsclub a couple mo ago. That was one of the best sales I've seen this year in this price range. Because memory is half the cost of production and has doubled and tripled in price we won't see good deals until China gets their memory factories going. Probably at least 6mo or a year.
