It's crazy that this still hasn't gotten the 4K treatment.

Sure. Anyone that has a highend theater uses UHD or Bluray disks.

Well this is a Blu Ray buy Anyone with a large dvd collection? People who like physical media. Not everything is available on Blu ray. Anyone with a retro set up. Anyone who doesn't have access to high speed internet. People who find them for a dollar a piece at thrift stores and flea markets. Old people. Young people who think owning things is cool. Should I keep going?

Would this be a good movie to play for world history class? Can anyone verify if the last samurai was a white scientologist or nah

I guess it's better than Ellen Page as a Greek warrior, lol.

Could see why people still use them. Still buying them is another story
People with high end home theaters use and buy UHD or BD due to image quality

Kind of a dumb movie, but I saw it when I was young and impressionable, so I have a big soft spot for it. It features a lot of now-well-known Japanese actors from before they had a higher profile in western media. The soundtrack is also incredible. It is, at least in small part, one of the reasons why I learned to speak Japanese, and why I have been to the country multiple times - in that sense, I guess it was a very effective instrument for tourism marketing. 😅

That's probably true. I wouldn't buy a DVD now unless it was unavailable on a streaming platform. Some people still buy them for cars. I did that when my kids were to young. Blu-ray and UHD I will buy for the theater but there arent that many great movies coming out
