HD 800 S - The audiophile headphones all others are measured against, our HD 800 S doesn't just raise the ceiling for critical listening-it smashes right through it. Combining the care devoted to a handcrafted instrument and the precision of modern manufacturing, the HD 800 S lets you explore your entire music collection from the inside out.
The Exploration of Sound
The HD 800 S demonstrates over 75 years of audio expertise, redefining the critical listening experience. After launching its predecessor-the HD 800-we accepted a self-imposed challenge to completely disappear from the last link in the audio chain.
Our goal was to provide acoustics so immersive that your awareness dissolves into the creator's perspective. On their own, each component of the HD 800 S is world-class. The signature sound of the HD 800 S is possible not because of any one of them, but through the synergy of all of them. Let's explore.
It Has a Ring to It
The heart of the HD 800 S and its striking sound is the 56mm Ring Radiator transducer. It leverages the key benefit of a large diaphragm transducer-air displacement-without losing the rigidity that favorably impacts rest and response times. Instead of a single attachment on the outer circumference of the transducer, both outer and inner edges of the "ring" are secured to the drive unit.
The voice coil excites the diaphragm, connected to the v-shaped groove found near the center of the ring. A feat in itself, the voice coil is 40mm and wound in-house to ensure the shape and consistency is held to the highest standard.
Solid as a Rock
The headphones' vibration damping chassis and inert headband insert provide complete stability-what you put into the HD 800 S is precisely what you will get out of it. Each transducer is manufactured, tested, and measured to the tightest tolerance to ensure the most dependable performance out of the box.
Even the steel mesh found in the baffle is matched and integrated with consistency in mind, as it contributes to ultra-low variance in the management of trave

Just because Adorama has had it on sale for this price on a couple prior occasions, does NOT mean that this is the NORMAL price for this product now. Sennheiser and every other reputable authorized dealership for Sennheiser headphones still have this listed for $1799 with an occasional drop down to about $1499 for a few weeks when they put it on sale. $1149 is the LOWEST price that I have seen this selling for ANYWHERE for as long as I have been keeping an eye on the price of Sennheiser headphones. There always seem to be people lately on SD who just like putting down deals.

he is right to the point that it has been on sale a few times in the last 3-4 month, but he is def wrong about regular price... but, i think this is why we have forums, so ones who in the market, can get on it asap and of course, state their opinion!
Does anyone have experience with this amp/dac? Worthy of these cans?
i tried it before with some other, even higher end cans, into 4-5k range and it has plenty of power and 3d filter is pretty nice, it gives it this depth, that i can't quite explain

I have their OG version of the Dac/Amp and can confirm it is great. Works really well with large over ears and in ears too - no audible hiss. This newer version may be just as good or better.

Thank you. After a reading ton of reviews, and contemplating between 800s vs Arya Stealth vs Arya Organic, finally pulled the trigger on this 800s. I previously owned Clear MG. While I loved the sound signature, I just could not deal with its heavy weight and clamp pressure on my head. Hopefully, it's high freq is not too fatiguing on my ears.
Question: I see many people (eg guy from headphone show YT channel) who loves jazz and highly recommend this bright/no bass headphone.
I don't understand it. Jazz has a lot of bass, at least a lot of it does. Especially the non vocal tunes, but a lot of them sport a huge acoustic bass, or a lot of swing, based on bass content.
I see the 800S more appropriate for orchestral music.
A Focal would reproduce jazz way better. Am I wrong?

Mine came. Pretty impressed with the sound stage and clarity. It shines for not only classical, it sounds amazing for jazz. IDSD bass boost mode adds bass extension quite nicely although I will have to eventually add eq adjustment. I actually expected completely lackluster anemic bass sound but it's actually better than expected. I favor this much better than Focal Clear MG because I can wear this all day long. Focal had better bass extension and better for modern music but I hated the metallic timbre sound and sheer weight/force on my head. I understand the hype of HD800s now
